Hilarious Call of Duty Anti-Cheat System Takes Weapons Away

I hope you remember the basics of CQC, because while Call of Duty still holds the title of being the highest budget and most popular FPS series in the world, this unfortunately, this comes with the drawback of being infested with cheaters. Call of Duty’s cheating problem was always pervasive, but with the release of Call of Duty: Warzone in 2020, the regularity of cheating in Warzone itself and accompanying full releases, such as Black Ops: Cold War and Vanguard, have skyrocketed.

Many players including high-profile Twitch streamers have quit the game over the issue, but it seems that Activision and Infinity Ward in specific have taken note. The team behind Call of Duty’s bespoke, server-side anti-cheat software known as ‘’Ricochet’’ have shared updates with the community in a blog post.

The post discusses the effectiveness of current cheating mitigation techniques already in play within Ricochet, as well as their newest and admittedly most hilarious – ‘’Disarm’’. Disarm works as the name implies, removing all weapons (including melee and fists) away from detected cheaters.

The Intention of ricochet and disarm

This punishment isn’t just for comedic effect either. The intention of ricochet’s mitigation techniques is to ‘’keep cheaters in-game to analyse their data while reducing their ability to impact a legitimate player’s experience’’. In summary, the current anti-cheat team working on Call of Duty don’t just want to remove cheaters from their games, but better analyse the software and environments being used by cheaters to better combat them in the future.

We’re excited to see just how effective these updates for Ricochet will be, especially with the upcoming release of Warzone 2.0 and Modern Warfare 2, but in the meantime, if you see a completely helpless soldier running around unarmed in your Vanguard matches, don’t worry, fire at will!
